📚 Case Study: Mandeville Road Lining and Civil Works Project
Project Overview
The project, undertaken by McAllister, involved the installation of a lining system and combined civil works from concept design through to construction. Utilizing Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes and a digital strategy, we enhanced collaboration and cooperation with clients, supply chains, and stakeholders. The project required the production of an Environmental Management Plan and temporary work design and planning.
Challenges and Complexities
- Multi-Track Rail🚉 Crossing: The project required navigating multi-track rail crossings, necessitating precise planning and coordination.
- Syphon Crossing: Twin 750mm and 900mm syphon crossings under strategic rail lines with multiple bends posed significant challenges
- Heavy Traffic and Load Management🚧: Managing heavy traffic, rail, and construction phase loadings was critical to ensuring safety and structural integrity.
- Limited Access Points: Limited and undersized asset access points required innovative solutions for effective execution.
- Stakeholder👥 Engagement: Engaging with multiple stakeholders and managing their expectations was crucial.
- Site Access: Difficult site access and high volumes added to the project's complexity.
Solutions Implemented
To address these challenges, McAllister's internal design and modelling team explored all Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) methods to develop a comprehensive solution:
- Multi CIPP Solution: Implemented a solution with both Ultraviolet (UV) and composite felt lining to accommodate the complex bends and load requirements.
- Scaffold Design and Erection: Designed, modeled, and erected multi-layered scaffolds to facilitate the lining solution.
- Deconstruction and Reprofiling: Deconstructed original access points, including re-profiling and securing the rail verge.
- New Manhole🕳️ Construction: Constructed new manholes to incorporate a temporary flume system during the construction phase.
Key Achievements
To address these challenges, McAllister's internal design and modelling team explored all Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) methods to develop a comprehensive solution:
- Environmental Management Plan: Successfully produced and implemented an Environmental Management Plan to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Temporary Work Design:Efficiently designed and planned temporary works, ensuring project safety and adherence to standards.
- Innovative💡 Solutions: Developed innovative solutions to address complex site conditions and stakeholder requirements.
- 🤝Enhanced Collaboration:Utilized BIM and digital strategies to enhance collaboration among all project participants, ensuring timely and efficient project delivery.
